A Sacramento-based architecture firm has submitted plans to the city to build a four-story, mixed-use apartment building in Southside Park.

The proposed development at 1008 S St., called The Ironside, would include 23 residential units: 13 one-bedroom, seven “1.5”-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments.

All four floors would be made up of apartments, with three “live/work” units on the ground floor, according to floor plans by Vrilakas Groen Architects, which filed documents to the city’s planning division earlier this month.

The Ironside would replace what is currently a retail block called the S Street Studios, made up of several hair and beauty salons on S Street between 10th and 11th streets.

The apartment building would share the block with the Old Ironsides pub. Renderings for The Ironside show a partially brick-based exterior.

Located within the South Side Historic District, The Ironside would require additional reviews from city preservation groups before approval and demolition.
