A picturesque, 10,000-square-foot farmhouse estate on more than three acres in the heart of Granite Bay has hit the Sacramento real estate market for $5.25 million. The resort-style property inspires staycations and swim parties more than getaways.
It’s hard to say what is the most awe-inspiring feature of the residence — the property is chock full of amenities — but the 4,000-square-foot indoor basketball court, complete with a scoreboard, has to be high on the list. The court is adjacent to a large gym with a lounge area and bar, big-screen television and full bathroom.
The entrance to the house — located at 7450 Shadow Oaks Lane — sets the tone of comfort and luxury. The moment guests step into the residence, they are greeted by rich wood accents and flooring and soaring ceilings.
The open-concept floor plan flows from foyer to large great room and out to the oasis-like pool area. A staircase to the right curves up to the second story where an overhead catwalk looks down on the gourmet kitchen and living room. An abundance of natural light cascades into the interior space through expansive windows.
“You can see from the front to the back, which creates the flow of life,” listing agent Debbie Sax of Guide Real Estate said as she walked into the house on a recent showing. “It’s a home that embraces you when you walk in. It invites you to come in. It’s warm, it’s relaxed. It feels like a home that you can come in and put your feet up instead of being very formal.”
The chef’s kitchen has granite countertops, an expansive island and a bar area that looks onto the pool area. The package of appliances includes a Thermador six-burner stove with a griddle range and double ovens. There’s a Sub Zero double-door refrigerator and four freezer drawers in matching wood fronts.
Upscale features
The upscale home’s perks start with a park-like front yard, where a peaceful pond and bridge, grassy areas and a stunning fountain make for a great spot for outdoor picnics — without ever leaving home. The pond is fed by well water..
The lush grounds were designed by Granite Bay-based landscape architect Dave Bushnell, according to Sax. The landscaping wraps around the house, from frontyard to backyard. The centerpiece of the backyard is a splendid infinity pool with a baja shelf, spa and cabana. Redwood pergolas with remote-control screens provide shade during Sacramento’s hot summers.
The outdoor kitchen and fireplace under a covered patio that allows for year-round grilling and dining round out the vacation-inspired backyard.
Dinner parties can be truly farm-to-fork, thanks to a garden space that contains a long raised planter beds next to a station for cleaning and cutting vegetables, fruits and flowers.
The property is ready for multi-generational living. There’s an apartment-style ADU above the four-car garage with plenty of room for ATVs, motorcycles and golf carts.
Wave-resistant lap pool
The primary bedroom suite is spotlighted by vaulted ceilings and a fireplace. There’s access through French doors to the spa and pool outside. The bathroom features a steam shower.
A wave-resistant lap pool was installed in the space on the way to the basketball court and gym.
There are currently eight residences on the market for more than $5 million in the four-county Sacramento region, but the Shadow Lakes Lane property is the highest-priced active listing in Granite Bay, according to Ryan Lundquist, a Sacramento appraiser and housing market analyst.
In Granite Bay, a $5.875 million at 9050 Chelshire Estates Court is pending.
Since 2020, there have been 15 homes on MLS that have sold in the region for more than $5 million. Three of those luxury homes were in Granite Bay. Loomis remains the top community for the number of highest-priced units sold, with seven sales closing above $5 million in the past five years.
The Shadow Oaks Lane house last sold in 2021 for $3 million, according to public property records. Despite the awesome hardwood court and a gym fit for a pro athlete, the property has never been owned by a player or coach with the Sacramento Kings. The seller declined to comment.
Originally built in 2002, the property underwent extensive renovation in recent years.
“The square footage is impressive at nearly 10,000 listed square feet, but the standout features to me are the pond, pool, sense of serenity, and the basketball court and gym,” Lundquist said. “I guess there would be no excuse to not be in great shape if you literally have a gym at your own house.”
