Explore Elk Grove’s ‘modern castle’ right on golf course. Ultra-luxe home lists for $3.4M

A completely renovated house that just hit the Sacramento real estate market for $3.4 million is distinct from other Elk Grove homes because of its unique custom work, chic living spaces and listing price.

The home’s owner Enoch Duplechan, founder of Elk Grove-based BigTime Housing LLC, also stands apart in the real estate field.

Coming from a troubled upbringing, he ended up homeless and spending desolate nights in a friend’s rat- and snake-infested barn at age 19. Three years later, he owned nearly two dozen properties.

“I was into drugs, I was into alcohol,” Duplechan, 47, said. “I was living very wrong. I made promises to God ... and I prayed for one house. When I turned 22, He reminded me of everything I promised Him at 19. He said, ‘not only am I going to give you one (property) I’m going to give you 22 — one for all your hard years.”

Today, BigTime Housing owns 81 units, which include single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes and four apartment buildings in California. Duplechan has become a pivotal player in the federal housing sector. BigTime Housing was named Fall 2019 Housing Providers of the Quarter by the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, which administers Section 8 in Sacramento.

Backs up to golf course

Add the estate at 9425 South Wales Way in Elk Grove to Duplechan’s portfolio. The jaw-dropping mansion sits on more than a third of an acre and backs onto the third hole of the private Valley Hi Country Club golf course.

Dubbed the “modern castle,” the residence spans 6,000 square feet with five bedrooms and five full bathrooms. The property sits in a quiet, immaculate Elk Grove neighborhood.

Duplechan’s wife Jessica Ceballos of Realty One Group is the listing agent for the home. After the previous owners ran out of money and abandoned the unfinished home, the husband-and-wife team overhauled the property into the ultra-luxe showstopper it is today.

After BigTime Housing acquired the house for $720,000 in 2021, according to public records, Duplechan substantially revamped both the interior and exterior. He has documented much of the work and progress on his social media accounts.

Duplechan estimates he’s dropped more than $1 million into rehabilitating the house.

From the front, the striking white stucco exterior walls, pitched roof lines, fanciful turret and dramatic circular driveway — not to mention tulip trees — are just a preamble to the contemporary elegance found inside.

The shining white marble floors, soaring ceilings and grand black marble staircase create an impressive entrance. The imported marble carries throughout all 6,000 square feet. Numerous expansive windows let in natural light so the interior living space is bright.

Enchanting interior balconies off the upstairs primary and guest suites overlook the open-concept marble entry.

”I wanted one consistent floor,” Duplechan said. “We were coming from a country house with multiple floor types. I wanted it to be heaven-like, just one floor color, one baseboard color, one door color. I figured even though it’s not truly one color, everything is in the white family, so it looks really luxury, really heavenly, really clean.”

A huge gourmet kitchen features an imported custom-made marble island.

“The whole kitchen is custom,” Ceballos said. “It was structured to be a small kitchen, but we took it and expanded to over 100 feet of counter space.”

The solid, one-piece stone island spotlights the kitchen.

“That island is the heaviest thing ever,” Duplechan said. “It took so much manpower just to get it off the truck. It’s one solid piece, and it has angles. It’s very artistic.”

The primary suite is a private retreat with a quiet patio, spacious loft area and large his-and-her walk-in closets — complete with a shoe wall and sitting.

“This castle has the biggest closet in Elk Grove,” Duplechan said.

Upstairs suite like ‘hotel room’

The luxurious primary bathroom is like a spa, featuring a triple-head shower and soaking tub. There’s a separate vanity, too.

A second fabulous upstairs suite is ideal for in-laws or guests.

“You have a guest suite (upstairs), where you have your kitchenette, fridge, microwave, stove, everything you need in there,” Ceballos said. “It’s like a little hotel room.”

If entertainment and relaxation are in the plans, a state-of-the-art movie theater room awaits downstairs, and two additional loft areas can be used for dance parties or a game room. Three elegant fireplaces — including one in the primary bedroom — give the home warmth, grace and ambiance.

Duplechan called the movie theater “our favorite room in the house.”

“I call our chairs the ‘Bentleys of chairs,’” he said. “They recline, they have offices in the middle where you can open it up and set up your laptop, set up your food area. There is a 200-inch movie screen.”

He said the acoustics are awesome even though the theater’s floors are marble.

“When you close the door, the acoustics are amazing. The doors are heavy. When you close that big, strong door, all the sound stays in. The sound bounces off the wall. It’s a great experience,” he said.

Duplechan added hidden gems at every turn throughout the house. No two bathroom sink designs or shapes are alike. There’s one with a barrel design, another has a tear-drop shape, and then there’s angled and modern styles, too. He also installed urinals and square toilets.

In the upstairs entertainment area, there is a large section of thick glass floor through which the living room and kitchen on the ground floor can be seen. It’s built strong enough to drive a car across, Duplechan said, not to mention hold a dance party.

“I don’t have a dance floor, I have a glass dance floor,” he said.

‘A party house’

“This is a party house. It’s not a regular house,” he added. “If you compare it to a regular house, you’re going to be very disappointed. This is a different type of house. This is a house where you want to have your broker party, entertainment, your birthday parties, your Christmas parties, your tea parties.”

The backyard, which boasts views of the third hole through a copse, is unfinished but “holds endless potential,” according to the property listing.

Duplechan and Ceballos contemplated dropping a pool in the backyard before they decided to put the home on the market. The couple, who have seven boys ranging in age from 6 years old to 27, also own a Victorian-style house on 5 acres in nearby Vineyard, east of Elk Grove.

As of March 19, 2025, there were only three listings above $3 million in the entire city. In Elk Grove, every home that has sold for more than $3 million has been for properties on the east side of Highway 99, where lots tend to be multiple acres. The modern castle sits west of the freeway.

“This property is a unicorn in terms of price,” Sacramento appraiser and housing analyst Ryan Lundquist said. “This property is in a patch of custom homes in Elk Grove that I think many people might not know about in the region, so it’s not surprising to see a custom design or larger square footage.”

The median price for a home in Elk Grove is $660,000, and the average price is $686,000.

To get to where he is today, Duplechan said he had to overcome a turbulent early life. He credits faith, sports, hard work, a good high school buddy who challenged him and a mentor.

“I was a troubled kid,” he said. “My parents did drugs, domestic violence, and my upbringing is not the best, probably one of the worst. Ultimately, I was homeless, and in that barn I was so bad I could only look at life in order to look at the future, and there make decisions (to change).“

Discovering he had wheels, track and field ended up playing a crucial role in transforming Duplechan’s life.

Real estate at a bargain

He met a competitive friend at San Juan High School who inspired him to race, eventually setting a school record in the 400-meter event. Motivated by track, he said he focused on improving his grades and achieved a 4.0 GPA in his high school senior year. Those accomplishments caught a Sacramento State coach’s attention and he was eventually offered a scholarship and financial aid to attend and train at the university.

Before the housing crisis hit in 2008, banks were giving out easy housing loans. His mentor, Jim Roseman, was retiring and wanted to sell his properties, Duplechan said, so he began acquiring real estate at pretty good bargains. The first property he purchased was a modest four-plex, but that asset laid the foundation for his growing empire.

He rapidly acquired properties — all while living in affordable housing himself, he added.

“We live in a world of broken dreams (but) we cannot stop dreaming,” Duplechan said. “Please y’all, continue dreaming no matter what hate comes ... Keep dreaming. Keep going through your dream. They said, no matter how old you are, don’t stop dreaming.”
