Comedian Daniel Tosh is selling the quintessential Lake Tahoe waterfront estate where he liked to escape when he wasn’t traveling for comedy gigs around the country, according to Compass real estate firm.
The Old Tahoe-style compound — with a total of seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms — is surrounded by pine trees on a private 1.6-acre lot with 93 feet of shoreline. The asking price is $11.9 million.
“This lakefront estate is the quintessential Lake Tahoe,” Compass listing agent Kristina Bergstrand said in an email from Compass to The Sacramento Bee. “This home is easy to miss, hidden behind a gate and surrounded by trees and beautiful landscaping. When you drive through the gate and into (the) estate, instantly you feel like you stepped away from all the chaos, but you are so close to everything — restaurants, hiking trails, cycling.”
The property is comprised of three “expertly designed structures,” including an idyllic lakeside cabin with a studio, loft with two twin beds and a “retro” kitchen, according to Compass. Dubbed “Mema’s Cabin,” the renovated former outbuilding has French doors that open onto a deck overlooking the lake.
“The former boat equipment storage shed is now Mema’s cabin, and is to die for,” Bergstrand said. “I could live there forever. It feels like summer camp but with all the modern amenities.”
A newer home
The property’s newer, four-bedroom, upper home takes in lake views from a cozy living area with a rock fireplace. Steam showers are a part of every bathroom and there’s a dry sauna, too. A large family room sits downstairs, with a pool table, large TV, Sonos surround system, shuffleboard, a bar and an industrial ice cream maker.
The grounds have a bocce ball court, horseshoe pit, a lush, expansive lawn for more entertainment, and a fire pit that is complemented by a waterfall hot tub. Tosh said in a news release he is even offering a 100-foot slip and slide to the buyer.
The home has an elevator and three-car garage.
The property’s Old Tahoe-style residence — three bedrooms and three bathrooms — can be accessed from a stone pathway, or via a ride up the hill in an open-air funicular. Its classic mountain charm is enhanced by large decks, an intimate stone patio and large windows capturing panoramic views of the lake. The living room’s classic stone fireplace gives the home a rustic sophistication, according to Compass.
“When not cozied up inside the residence, the family is on the lake wake surfing, using the banana tube (or) taking the boat to Tahoe City and other restaurants on the lake,” Bergstrand said.
Tosh will ‘throw in’ water slide
Tosh, known for his sharp wit and creative humor, provided some personal photos and quips in the email announcing the listing.
“Holidays at the lake are the only times I’m not stressed,” he said.
In addition to being “willing to throw in the 100-foot ‘slip n slide’ with the sale,” Tosh said the home “comes with a snowblower that starts on the second pull every year!”
His children learned to snowboard in the backyard, he added: “The home comes with one green run, two blue and one black diamond — and a chairlift.”
Compass launched the listing on MLS on Friday.
“Whether hosting grand events or enjoying quiet family moments, this property epitomizes a unique blend of luxury, comfort, fun, and timeless charm, offering an unrivaled lakeside sanctuary,” the property listing states. “You can’t help but relax and decompress.”
Tosh agrees.
“My in-laws love to visit so having multiple, separate cabins ensured I could maintain my Tahoe tranquility,” he said in the email from Compass.
