Driver glitter-bombs cops after chase on California highway, police say

Officers who chased a woman accused of towing a stolen trailer Wednesday on Highway 101 got a surprise when she showered them with glitter, California police say.

A Santa Rosa Police Department release says Aura Palma, 32, whom police describe as homeless, emerged from her stopped pickup truck with a cordless blower — producing a “cloud of glitter” that “showered down on officers” and passing traffic.

Officers then arrested Palma without incident on suspicion of reckless evading and driving a vehicle without the consent of the owner, The Press Democrat reported.

The incident began at 11 a.m. when a rental company manager spotted a pickup truck in Santa Rosa towing a utility trailer stolen from the firm and called 911, police said.

Police followed the truck onto southbound Highway 101, where Palma reached speeds of 80 mph as cargo and debris fell onto the highway, the release says.

Palma finally stopped after a cargo dolly fell out of the pickup and became stuck beneath the trailer, police reported. That’s when Palma glitter-bombed police and was taken into custody.

The stopped pickup truck and trailer briefly blocked traffic before being removed, the release says.
