Video shows Tesla driver apparently asleep at the wheel on California freeway

Another Tesla driving on a California highway has made the news.

A woman was caught on camera apparently asleep at the wheel of her Tesla on Interstate 15 near Temecula on Feb. 6, 2023, a video shows.

The Tesla was apparently on autopilot.

“Look at how dangerous that is,” Vasiliki Dolas says in the video.

In an interview with Fox - L.A. news station, Dolas said that she was driving home to Las Vegas when she saw the Tesla speeding past them. The driver had her eyes closed, she added.

Fox - L.A. shared the clip through video content provider VideoElephant.

“She was conked out,” Dolas said in the telephone interview. “We kept saying,’ Someone wake up this Sleeping Beauty.’”

She followed the Tesla for 15 minutes, trying to get the driver’s attention, and then called the police.

Even though Teslas can self-drive on the electric vehicle’s autopilot function, it is illegal for drivers to be asleep or unconscious while behind the wheel.

Less than two weeks ago, on Jan. 28, 2023, the battery compartment of a Tesla Model S vehicle “spontaneously caught fire” on eastbound Highway 50 near Sacramento around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. The incident was caught on video.
