In spite of rising gas prices in California, the national average for a gallon of gas fell 4 cents over the last six days. As of March 1, the national average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.36 per gallon.

AAA attributed the recent drops to oil prices falling “into the mid $70’s per barrel.”

“The cost for oil accounts for 55% of what we pay at the pump,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson in a February news release. “So higher or lower oil costs will play a major role in the price we pay when fueling up.”
