Mega Millions player wins nearly $1 million in California. Where was lucky ticket sold?
A Mega Millions ticket sold in California won $943,692, narrowly missing out on the $421 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched five winning numbers in the drawing Tuesday, May 21, but not the Mega Ball, the California Lottery said.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $453 million, with a cash option of approximately $211 million, for the next drawing Friday, May 24, the national Mega Millions site said.
The winning numbers were 2, 5, 8, 28 and 69 with a Mega Ball of 14.
The $943,692 ticket was sold at a gift and book store in Monterey Park, which is about a 10-mile drive east from downtown Los Angeles.
More than 131,000 other tickets sold in California won prizes ranging from $2 to nearly $7,000 in the drawing, the lottery said. California adjusts Mega Millions prizes based on the number of tickets sold and winners.
A Mega Millions player in Louisiana won $2 million in the drawing.
