A 42-year-old man confronted teens celebrating on a nearby beach with a golf club and then a pistol, California police reported.

The teens were celebrating their upcoming high school graduation around 8:30 p.m. Monday, June 10 on Pierpont Beach, the Ventura Police Department said in a news release.

“Upset by the disturbance,” nearby resident Robert Felix, 42, of Ventura first swung a golf club at the teens, then returned to his home, police said.

Felix returned a short time later with a handgun, which he fired into the air, prompting several 911 calls to police, officers said.

He was arrested on charges of brandishing, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

No one was injured in the incident, according to police.

Ventura is about an 80-mile drive west of downtown Los Angeles.
