VIDEO: What it’s like on first day of traveling with Real ID requirement

The deadline to get a California Real ID has arrived.

For domestic air travel, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security now requires people to have a federally approved document — such as a passport or a Real ID driver’s license.

Perhaps you saw it coming. The law calling for security-enhanced identification cards to travel by plane took 20 years to enact in the United States.

Bay Area Fox news station KTVU visited the Oakland airport to find out what it’s like on the first day of traveling in California with the Real ID requirement.

Most travelers at the airport were prepared, but a few were caught off guard by the new requirement, the station reported.
