Man kills ex with protective order against him at restaurant, California cops say
A man fatally shot a woman whom he once dated at a Korean barbecue restaurant in a murder-suicide, California police say.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ in La Habra shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, the La Habra Police Department said in an Oct 15 news release.
When officers arrived, they found a seriously injured woman and man, later identified as Jacqueline Medrano, 45, of Covina, and Jonathan Wang, 35, of Long Beach, police said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics declared both dead on scene, according to police.
At the time of the shooting, there were others inside the restaurant; however, no one else was injured, according to police. The restaurant was about four hours from closing, according to its website.
Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ did not immediately respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Oct. 15.
Initial investigation showed Wang shot Medrano, then died by suicide, officers said, adding there was “no known threat to the public.”
Medrano was previously in a romantic relationship with Wang, police said.
About a month before the shooting, the Los Angeles County Superior Court “issued a criminal protective order” against Wang, preventing him from contacting Medrano, police said.
The order was still in place at the time of the shooting, police said.
La Habra is about a 30-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles.
