This California pho spot ranks No. 1 in US, Yelp says. Why it’s ‘slurp worthy’
Attention, pho enthusiasts!
As the sun sets earlier and the cold begins to amp up, California pho lovers might find that their next favorite spot for a bowl is closer than they thought.
A California pho joint snagged the nation’s #1 most “slurp worthy” spot for the second year in a row, according to the review website Yelp.
The list is created by identifying business in Vietnamese and noodle categories and ranking the joint based on volume and ratings of reviews left by Yelp Elite Squad Members.
Ranked as #1 and named appropriately, National City’s PHOnomenal sells over 200 bowls of pho a day and “sells out frequently.”
The restaurant, wanting to be known for a “celebration of flavor, culture, and community” is open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until it’s sold out, its Instagram said.
From a simple menu of vibrant broth and shrimp spring rolls, to meat that falls off the bone, reviewers called PHOnomenal a “must try,” with one person saying, “Came here for the first time and had to come back the very next day!”
“I wouldn’t say it’s Top 100, mainly because that’s an understatement. After eating at many other PHO restaurants, this is definitely in my TOP5, maybe even my No. 1!!!!!!!!.” another person wrote .
Another California spot came in fourth place, with Fullerton’s All About Pho praised for its bowls full of “depth and flavor without being overly salty” along with unlimited free noodles.
All About Pho cooks its beef bone broth for 48 hours using Vietnamese and Japanese techniques to make for a “rich ” taste, its website said.
The restaurant’s mission is to create a “harmonious blend of rich herbal broth, tender rice noodles, and protein that fills your soul and warms your heart.”
Along with the pho that landed it the No. 4 place on the list, the restaurant serves dishes from roasted bone marrow to fish sauce fries and Parmesan garlic chicken wings.
As for the reviews, Yelp users are in agreement that they are “really impressed with this restaurant,” with one person saying, “Definitely one of my favorite to go pho spots, their broth is amazing, and I love their herbal tea, they never disappoint.”
Another spot in National City, which is about a 6-mile drive southeast of San Diego, landed the No. 5 slot with Pho 7 Cow praised for its “authentic taste and affordable prices.”
Pho 7 Cow is led by Tuyen Nguyen, who left Vietnam and immigrated to San Diego in 1985, according to its website.
The menu has a variety of pho options from slices of rare steak to shrimp and meatballs, making for reviewers to decide that they will “always recommend this spot!,” with one person saying, “the pho is flavorful and there is a perfect amount of toppings.”
“What a gem this place is, like really one of the best pho restaurants in San Diego, arguably THE best,” another wrote.
The Golden State continued to rack in the accolades as Rosemead’s Golden Delight #1 landed in the seventh spot, while the ninth spot went to SUP Noodle Bar in Buena Park and lucky No. 10 was awarded to Pho Duyen Mai in San Diego.
