Player lands ‘spooky’ slot machine jackpot on $1 bet at Sacramento-area casino

A Rio Vista man hit a $111,552 jackpot on a $1 bet on a “Spooky Link Grand” slot machine.

The win came June 18 on the 1-cent machine.

“It was me and my girlfriend…I looked up at that $111,000 and said, ‘Oh man, that’d be sweet to win that,’” the winner told casino officials. “And no sooner than I said it — I hit it. How ironic”

He said he plans to split the win with his girlfriend and will use his share to help pay off a 22-foot Flagstaff camper that he had purchased the day before.

“This is the kind of story that stays with you,” said Michael J. Facenda, president and general manager of Sky River Casino. “This win is about the people and the moments behind it.”

The casino, which opened in 2022, spans 100,000 square feet with more than 2,500 slot machines and more than 80 table games. It has 18 restaurants and bars.

Owned by the Wilton Rancheria in partnership with Boyd Gaming Corporation, the casino is located at 1 Sky River Parkway in Elk Grove, about a 15-mile drive southeast from downtown Sacramento.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
