Quail Fire in Solano County fully contained, Cal Fire says

The Quail Fire, which ignited Saturday in Solano County and grew quickly amid gusty winds, has been fully contained, Cal Fire said Wednesday morning.

The wildfire destroyed three buildings over the weekend, including at least one home, before crews gained control as winds eased, according to incident reports by Cal Fire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa unit, the latest coming just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

As many as 600 personnel from Cal Fire and numerous local fire departments were assigned at one point to fight the vegetation fire, which sparked Saturday afternoon near Quail Canyon and Pleasants Valley roads, about five miles southwest of Winters and 15 miles north of Vacaville.

The fire shot to 1,200 acres by Saturday night and threatened as many as 100 structures at its peak, prompting mandatory evacuations that were lifted Sunday as weather conditions improved, according to Cal Fire.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning due to forecasts of more gusty winds Monday, but the Quail Fire’s reported size remained at 1,837 acres throughout all Cal Fire updates Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as the containment figure grew to 100 percent.

Fire crews remain at the scene for mop-up efforts.

The Quail Fire is the biggest fire of the year for which Cal Fire has been the lead agency, though Cal Fire also assisted in battling a 2,000-acre fire in Kings County in early May and a 5,000-acre fire in San Luis Obispo County in late May.
