Forward progress stopped on 45-acre fire in Wilton area of southeastern Sacramento County

Breaking News

Authorities were helping residents in southeastern Sacramento County to evacuate after a grass fire broke out Thursday in Wilton.

The Cosumnes Fire Department said it was assisting the Wilton Fire Department, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and other agencies in battling a grass fire that was threatening structures near Walmort Road and Badger Creek Lane, according to a social media post published about 1:30 p.m.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office was requested to help evacuate residents of about 20 to 30 homes in the area, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Metro Fire in a 2:30 p.m. update said forward progress on the fire had been stopped at 45 acres, and that evacuations had been lifted for an estimated 20 to 30 evacuees. It was not clear at that time how many structures may have been damaged, Metro Fire said.

Firefighters from the Consumes Fire Department, Wilton Fire Protection District and the Herald Fire Protection District all responded to assist at the scene.
