Fire weather watch issued for Sacramento Valley, Delta areas

California Wildfires

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for the Sacramento Valley and much of the Delta later this week, as forecasters warn of conditions that could support rapid wildfire growth.

US National Weather Service’s Sacramento office warned that there could be threats of fires from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 5 p.m. Thursday due to expected north gusts and critically low humidity levels across the region, with the greatest impacts anticipated along and west of the Interstate 5 corridor.

Winds are forecast to range from 15 mph to 25 mph, with gusts reaching 30 mph to 40 mph. Daytime relative humidity levels are expected to drop between 9% and 15%, while overnight humidity is forecast to recover only to 25% to 50%.

Officials warn that the combination of strong winds and dry air will make it easier for fires to start and spread quickly. Residents are urged to take extra precautions to prevent accidental ignitions and to remain alert to changing conditions.
