Mask maker uses profits to buy winning Oregon lottery ticket – then buys more material

An Oregon woman’s luck during the pandemic has changed after a little money she earned from selling face masks turned into a six-figure payday..

Lorna Hewitt from Sisters, Oregon, was laid off from her job at a restaurant, Oregon Lottery reported. She started working at a local grocery store where she got the idea to start making face masks.

“They liked them so much, they started giving me some money for them,” Hewitt told the Oregon Lottery. “So, I started selling them because my boss couldn’t order any more; there was a shortage.”

She used some of the money from selling face masks to buy a Keno 8-spot ticket, which she said she doesn’t do often, according to the Oregon Lottery. She won more than $120,000 on the ticket.

Immediately after receiving her $126,789 prize, Hewitt went to Joann Fabrics to buy more mask-making supplies, Oregon Lottery said.

“My masks are popular, and I want to keep making them,” she told the Oregon Lottery. “And maybe some other things.”
