It’s the giving season: Here’s where you can donate goods to families this Thanksgiving

Whether it’s preparing for Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas, this is the time of the year when families, communities exhibit solidarity between one another.

Every year there are many food drives, clothes drives and other gift drives in Sacramento to donate goods as communities come together to demonstrate peace, love, and unity among one another.

Local nonprofit leaders, community members, and artists are giving back to their communities in hosting events throughout Sacramento. Here’s your guide this Thanksgiving season to how you can help donate and pass out goods to families in need this season.

Ceaze the Moment Presents: Thanksgiving Donation Drive

Ceaze the Moment is a nonprofit organization based in Oak Park, founded by Julius Douglas. Every year they host a Thanksgiving Donation Drive giving back to families throughout the neighborhood.

This year is their second annual event in Oak Park and Douglas wants to make it a staple in his community.

Last year, Ceaze the Moment provided turkeys, hams, fresh produce, canned goods and other non-perishable items. Last year, the nonprofit was able to deliver meals, helping more than 200 families.

Douglas says serving the people is his genuine calling.

“I do it because I got tired of people getting left behind so I wanted to take on the challenge and serve my people and not just Oak Park, I served the whole (city of) Sacramento from Meadowview, Del Paso Heights, and so on,” Douglas said.

He wants to raise money to double their goal and the group is looking for at least 100 people to donate $15. Donations or sponsorships can be made payable to Ceaze the Moment and Julius Douglas with the Venmo tag @julius-douglas or the Cash App tag $CTMoment.

They will only accept food donations on their distribution day, Nov. 21. Due to a lack of proper refrigeration and storage, food donations must be arranged with Douglas.

Distribution day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Neighborhood Network, 4626 44th St. This event is first-come, first-serve.

Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Give-N-Go

Marcquise Dionte Burgess, better known as Skar, is a local rap artist from Lincoln Village in Rancho Cordova.

Through his company, No Feelings Entertainment, he is organizing a Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Give-N-Go.

Burgess’ message is to encourage kids to be prosperous in their lives, no matter where they come from, and to give back to their communities.

“We can become successful from a struggle and still lend a helping hand to those who may be going through that same struggle we once encountered,” Burgess said. “It’s to show our neighborhood that (we) have a heart and would love to see others smile. It’s more than music and I want to show we care.”

The event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 21 at Lincoln Village Community Park, 3480 Routier Road.

Only one turkey basket per household will be provided, and it will be on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be food, music, games, and other types of entertainment for the family to enjoy the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving.

For those who don’t need a turkey but would like to donate, contact Burgess through his Instagram account.

Urban Legendz Presents: Thanksgiving for Everyone

Local artist and entrepreneur Erick Davies, best known as King Deezy, is giving back to the community with his third annual Thanksgiving for Everyone donation drive.

This year, he is looking to double up as Urban Legendz partnered with RekTips, Total Culture, Exhale Smoke Shop and Devil May Care Ice Cream to deliver thanksgiving to families and persons of need.

In 2020, Davies was able to feed over 250 homeless people and serve over 20 families.

“We are all blessed in different ways that other people may not realize,” said Davies, owner and CEO of Urban Legendz Entertainment. “I know if I only help one person, I can change the world in at least one way.”

Davies is collecting canned goods, frozen turkeys and any non-perishable items at three drop-off locations throughout Sacramento:

Total Culture, 9193 Keifer Boulevard, Unit B

Devil May Care Ice Cream, 710 K St.

Exhale Smoke Shop, 2830 E St.

He plans to distribute proceeds at noon Nov. 24 at Exhale Smoke Shop, where they will be serving hot plates and handing them out to the homeless.

Fresh Winter: Coats 4 Kids Drive

Berry Accius and his nonprofit organization, Voice of the Youth, has teamed up with Justin Edwards of Just Win Realty to give back to their community and provide coats for the youth this winter.

On Nov. 28, starting at 11 a.m. at the VOY Impact Center, 4625 44th St., Room 112, coats and jackets will be handed out to the families for children in many sizes and styles.

Accius — who has organized many different giveaways for shoes, back-to-school supplies and Christmas toys — wants kids to not just be warm for the winter, but also fresh for the winter. Edwards said he understands hardships and wants provide a form of relief and assistance for his community.

“The goal for me is to give back to the community I came from and be a resource for the individuals and families that create the community,” said Edwards.

Registration is event required. Donations for coats can be made via Paypal at 1voiceoftheyouth@gmail.com.

For more information, contact Accius at 916-949-9026 or voygiftgiveaway@gmail.com.

“Voice of the Youth makes it a priority to give back to our beloved community through our Giving Back community service program,” Accius said. “Giving back is our mission not just during the holiday season but it extends throughout the year.”
