PG&E shuts off power to more than 200 in Yolo County as utility girds for fire weather

Public Safety Power Shutoff

Planned power outages Friday triggered by gusty winds and dry conditions shut off electricity to more than 200 Pacific Gas & Electric customers in Yolo County.

In all, 241 Yolo customers’ power was interrupted as of 10:16 a.m., according to the utility.

Most of the affected areas are in the western end of the county near Capay; as well as to the south in areas outside Winters near Putah Creek and along the Solano County line. Isolated areas on the Colusa County line northwest of Dunnigan and west on the Lake County line, PG&E outage area maps show.

PG&E’s public safety shutoffs in Yolo are among outages across a wide swath of Northern California as high winds and dry conditions prompted weather forecasters to declare a red flag warning.

The utility said it could trigger a public safety power shutoff, or PSPS, across as many as 30 counties through Saturday for fire danger.

National Weather Service forecasters in Sacramento on Friday said critical fire weather conditions are expected to persist through Saturday from gusty northerly to easterly winds, dry fuels, and low humidity. The strongest winds were expected through midday Friday, especially in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and Sacramento Valley locations along and west of Interstate 5.

By 10 a.m., Sacramento forecasters had updated their red flag warning to include fire zones along the Sierra Nevada.
