Help police find a woman who was exposed to rabid bat at Rancho Cordova Target
The Sacramento County Division of Public Health is searching for a woman who came into contact with a bat that tested positive for rabies at a Target in Rancho Cordova on Sept. 19.
The woman is believed to have found the bat at the Target located at 10881 Olson Drive and turned it in to employees, according to Sacramento County spokeswoman Brenda Bongiorno.
The bat was tested by the Rancho Cordova animal control, and was found positive for rabies, Bongiorno said, although it is not known if the woman was bitten.
The division of public health asks that anyone who recognizes the woman or has information relating to the incident to immediately call (916) 875-5881.
Multiple rabid bats were found in downtown Sacramento last month, making this the second reported instance of possible rabies exposure in less than two months.
A press release issued by the division of public health advised anyone who sees sick or dead bats to stay away and call 311, as bats are the most frequent carriers of rabies.
