Man, woman killed while arguing in middle of South Watt Ave. identified by coroner

The two pedestrians struck and killed by a vehicle Friday night in Rosemont have been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

A man and a woman had reportedly gotten out of their vehicle and were standing in the middle of South Watt Avenue near Jackson Road around 11:30 p.m., engaged in an apparent argument, when a Volkswagen heading south on South Watt Avenue struck both of them, according to a news release by the Sacramento Police Department.

The man, identified as Marquist Allen, 38, of Sacramento, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, Maricela Aguilar, 46, of Sacramento, died early Saturday at the hospital, according to police and the Coroner’s Office.

Witnesses told police that the pedestrians “seemed to be in an argument in the middle of the roadway,” according to the news release.

The driver stayed at the scene, and authorities say speed is not considered a factor.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-4357. Witnesses may also submit an anonymous tip using the free P3 Tips smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
