Ready to recycle your Christmas tree? Here’s how to do it in the Sacramento region

The New Year’s festivities are over. That Christmas tree in the corner isn’t going to undecorate itself.

Residents throughout the Sacramento region have a few more days, and in some cases, a few more weeks, to ensure their trees are recycled properly.

Here’s how to make sure those Christmas trees are picked up or dropped off at the right place:

Sacramento County

Trees can be dropped off at the following locations and times:

  • Elder Creek Recovery & Transfer, 8642 Elder Creek Road, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
  • Kiefer Landfill, 12701 Kiefer Blvd., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • North Area Recovery Station, 4450 Roseville Road, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Sacramento Recycling & Transfer Station, 8491 Fruitridge Road, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
  • SMUD Corporate Yard, 6100 Folsom Blvd, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

City of Sacramento

Residents can place trees on their curb as part of their yard waste collection through Jan. 26. Flocked trees will be accepted.

Elk Grove

Residents can place their non-flocked trees on the curb next to their gray organic waste bin during the weeks of Jan. 14 and Jan. 28 for regular collection. Trees taller than 6 feet should be cut down to 3-foot pieces and placed in the bin.

Rancho Cordova

Residents should cut their non-flocked tree down to fit inside their green waste cart for regular collection through Jan. 17.

Folsom

Residents should cut their non-flocked tree down to pieces no longer than 2 feet long and place them in their green waste carts for regular collection.

Trees can also be dropped off at Dan Russell Rodeo Arena, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Citrus Heights

Residents can leave their non-flocked trees on the curb next to waste collection bins for regular pickup through Jan. 17, or cut up into pieces and placed into green yard waste bins at anytime.

El Dorado County

Residents who get their trash picked up by a regular disposal service can place their tree on the curb for pickup during normal collection days. Trees must be cut down to pieces no longer than 3 feet long and bundled together with string.

Trees can also be dropped off at Waste Connections, 4100 Throwita Way, Placerville, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Jan. 15.

South Lake Tahoe

Residents can place non-flocked trees next to their trash can during normal pickup days through Monday, so long as trees are cut down into 6-foot lengths.

Trees can also be dropped off at South Tahoe Refuse Resource Recovery Facility, 2140 Ruth Ave., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Monday through Wednesday.

Placer County

Residents can place non-flocked trees in their green waste containers for normal pickup as long as trees are cut into 4-foot pieces.

Residents can also drop off non-flocked trees at:

  • Auburn Transfer Station, 12305 Shale Ridge Road, through Jan. 31.

  • Foresthill Transfer Station, 6699 Patent Road, Fridays to Mondays through Feb. 3.

  • Meadow Vista Transfer Station, 2950 Combie Road, Fridays to Mondays through Feb. 3.

  • Miners Ravine, 7530 Auburn Folsom Road, Saturday and Sunday.

  • Del Oro High School, 3315 Taylor Road (football parking lot), through Monday.

Lincoln

Residents can place non-flocked trees in green waste containers on normal pickup days, so long as trees are cut into 4-foot lengths.

Non-flocked trees can also be dropped off at Lincoln Airport, 1420 Flightline Drive (the open field adjacent to the airport) through Saturday.

Roseville

Residents can place non-flocked trees in green waste bins on normal pickup days, so long as the tree fits completely in the bin.

Non-flocked trees can also be dropped off through Jan. 12 at:

  • Maidu Park, 1550 Maidu Drive.
  • Mahany Park (in dog park lot), 1545 Pleasant Grove Blvd.
  • Saugstad Park, 100 Buljan Drive.

Rocklin

Residents can drop off trees through Wednesday at:

  • Johnson Springview Park (front parking lot), 5480 Fifth St.
  • Twin Oaks Park (near the baseball fields), 5500 Park Drive.

Yolo County

Residents can drop off trees now through Jan. 15 at:

  • Yolo County Central Landfill, 44090 County Road 28H, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Esparto Convenience Center transfer station, 27075 County Road 19A, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Davis

Residents can place non-flocked trees in their brown-lidded organics cart during normal pickup days, so long as the tree is cut down to pieces no longer than 5 feet.

Woodland

Residents can place their non-flocked Christmas trees on their curb through Jan. 15, or in their yard waste cart at anytime.
