How to participate in Sacramento’s MLK Day March for the Dream, which has a new route
Monday’s March for the Dream, which honors Martin Luther King Jr., will follow a different path than previous years’ MLK Day marches due to construction at the Sacramento Convention Center.
Instead of a downtown path, the 2020 March for the Dream starts and ends at Sacramento City College in Land Park. Programming begins at 8:30 a.m. and marchers will walk a 4-mile loop on north on Land Park Drive and south on Freeport Boulevard back to the start location.
Participants have the option of starting the march an hour earlier at 8 a.m. for a ceremonial start called the Extra Mile. The Extra Mile start departs from Oak Park Community Center, which is on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Parking is available at both the Oak Park Community Center and Sacramento City College start locations. Sacramento City College is light-rail accessible, and a special Sacramento Regional Transit shuttle will run from the college to Oak Park Community Center at 7:30 for those looking to join the earlier start.
More information is available on the March for the Dream website at marchforthedream.org.
