Man killed by train in North Highlands, second incident on Sacramento tracks in 4 days
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train Monday morning in North Highlands, authorities say.
A Union Pacific train heading westbound “struck and fatally injured” a man on the tracks near Roseville Road and Longview Drive just after 4 a.m., Union Pacific spokesman Tim McMahan said in an emailed statement.
The deadly incident occurred just outside Sacramento city limits. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services were notified, McMahan said, and no one on the train was injured.
No other details were immediately available. Identification of the victim will be handled by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
The collision was the second since Friday involving a Union Pacific train in the Sacramento area. Early Friday morning, a Union Pacific train hit a cargo van at the crossing along Elder Creek Road, east of Power Inn Road, in Sacramento. The sole occupant of the van was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
