Recently released renderings show the sleek, modern design planned for the 14-floor Sacramento Capitol Hotel, a combined apartment building and Hilton luxury hotel being planned at 9th and L streets downtown.

Described in the plan as a “modern mid-rise,” but a high-rise by Sacramento skyline standards, the proposed Sacramento Capitol Hotel and Apartments would have up of 275 Hilton Canopy-brand hotel rooms on the lower levels and 50 apartments on the top three floors.

A design plan filed to the city last month includes renderings, floor plans and details for the building’s interior, exterior, landscaping, basement parking and rooftop terrace.

“Accenting the corner of L and 9th street are two vertical columns extending to the rooftop terrace canopy, to be dramatically lit at night to create a jewel at the top that will be spectacular for sunsets and social gatherings,” a write-up within the design review plan reads. “Topping the project and making for a beautiful evening is a much-needed roof top bar and terrace extending views to the night lit Capitol building and the city beyond.”

Other features include a fitness center, pool and a lawn/pool terrace area suitable for public events.

The plans were formally filed in mid-February by developer Eva Hill of Venture Oaks Real Estate Group, as previously reported by the Sacramento Business Journal, with Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo as the project’s architect. WATG’s most well-known work in the U.S. is the Encore luxury hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

The plan also touts the site’s prime, central location in the heart of downtown: less than a five-minute walk from Golden 1 Center, the state Capitol and Sacramento City Hall.
