El Dorado wildfire burns nearly 30 acres but is 65 percent contained, Cal Fire says
Firefighters on Tuesday evening were trying to corral a vegetation fire in El Dorado County that had grown to nearly 30 acres near Pilot Hill, but crews stopped the flames’ forward progress.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection initially reported about 2 p.m. Tuesday that Cronan Fire had burned about 3 acres of grass at Cronan Ranch off of Pedro Hill Road.
An hour later, Cal Fire officials reported that the fire had spread and burned about 10 to 15 acres.
About 5 p.m. Tuesday, Cal Fire officials said the Cronan Fire burned about 29 acres, but its forward progress had been stopped. The Cronan Fire had not damaged or threatened any buildings, according to Cal Fire.
Officials said 77 firefighters, along with a helicopter, two dozers, three water tenders and eight engines, remained at the scene to ensure further containment. As of 7:30 p.m., Cal Fire crews had about 65 percent of the wildfire contained.
The National Weather Service in Sacramento on Tuesday said the region’s forecast this week includes breezy winds that could increase spread of any new or ongoing grass fires.
