Pedestrian dies after being struck by freight train in Dixon, police say
A freight train moving through Dixon Wednesday morning struck a pedestrian who died shortly after the collision, police officials said.
The fatal collision was reported about 7 a.m. along the 400 block of Porter Road, just south of West A Street. Police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene and found the pedestrian dead, the Dixon Police Department announced on its Facebook page.
Union Pacific Railroad, which has jurisdiction over the railway, was called to the scene to conduct an investigation. The train, which stopped after the collision, blocked A Street and North First streets.
Traffic was detoured around the area in the small Solano County town while railroad officials investigated at the scene. By 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, the freight train had been moved out of the area, according to the Police Department.
The name of the pedestrian who died had not been released.
