50-acre fire along American River Parkway fully contained, Sacramento Fire Department says
The fire that burned Thursday night along the American River Parkway east of Discovery Park in Sacramento has been fully contained and crews are conducting burn operations to minimize available fuel that could spark anew, according to the Sacramento Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire that grew to cover 50 acres shortly before 5 p.m. Crews of more than 80 people from various fire jurisdictions worked overnight to contain the blaze, Capt. Keith Wade, spokesperson for the fire department, said Friday.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Wade said it is believed to be human-caused. No civilians or firefighters sustained injuries as a result of the fire, and no structures were destroyed. One home was threatened, but only a covered area containing firewood was damaged, according to Wade.
Wade emphasized a need for continued fire safety, particularly because of persistent dry conditions in the region. Fire season is still in full effect, Wade said.
“Everyone has to just be very cautious when they’re doing any outside activity that could spark a fire,” he added.
