Where can you go for fresh produce in Sacramento? There are plenty of year-round options
Sacramento — the “Farm-to-Fork Capital” — has a large array of locally sourced produce and vegetables, anchored by 1.5 million acres of farms and ranches.
There are also more than 40 farmers markets in the region, according to Visit Sacramento.
A reader asked The Bee’s California Utility Team where they could get fresh produce throughout the year — and there’s plenty.
From local grocery stores to farmers markets, here are some spots where you can find fresh ingredients year round:
Sunday Certified Farmers Market
On Sundays, you can buy goods directly from California farmers at the Certified Farmers Market. Previously, the market was at the overpass at Highway 50 at W and Eighth Street, but due to construction, it’s now temporarily moved to Arden Fair mall.
For those who can’t make it on Sundays, the Certified Farmers Market is also open on Saturday in Arden Arcade, Fair Oaks-Rancho Cordova and Elk Grove. It’s also open all year on Thursdays in South Sacramento. You can find more information about times and locations on the official website.
Time: 8 a.m. to noon Sundays

Midtown Farmers Market
Right in midtown, you can find gourmet mushrooms, organic olive oil and a variety of fruits, flowers and vegetables at the Midtown Farmers Market. With its long list of vendors, you’ll find prepared foods, bakery goods and local artisan stands, too.
You can also enjoy the farmers market’s live music and food demonstrations.
