Sheldon High School building damaged after two-alarm blaze, Elk Grove district says
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District extinguished a two-alarm fire at Sheldon High School in the Vineyard area of Sacramento County early Monday morning.
Metro Fire crews and assisting agencies responded to the fire around 1:23 a.m. and knocked down a blaze that damaged the roof of the Sheldon Industrial Arts building, Xanthi Soriano, a spokeswoman for Elk Grove Unified School District, said in an email to The Sacramento Bee.
The rest of the Industrial Arts building also sustained smoke damage and some adjacent classrooms are being aired out to remove the smell of smoke, Soriano said, but Sheldon High classes will go on as scheduled.
“We are grateful for the swift response of our fire fighters and thank them for keeping our school safe,” Soriano said. “The cause of the fire is being investigated and initial reports indicate no suspicious activity. Thankfully, no one was hurt or injured. District staff and maintenance crews are on site to assist school administration.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
