Two utility workers fall 50 feet while repairing electrical lines in Sierra foothills
Two utility workers repairing electrical lines Thursday night in California’s Sierra Nevada foothills fell from a height of about 50 feet and were hospitalized for their injuries, according to Cal Fire.
The incident happened near Rollins Reservoir, north of Colfax along the Nevada-Placer county line, Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer unit said in a social media post around 9 p.m.
Both utility workers were transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Cal Fire said. Their condition is unknown. Cal Fire tweeted a photo showing one worker being carried to an ambulance on a stretcher.
The workers were linemen contracted by Pacific Gas and Electric Co.
“We can confirm that there were two of our contracting partner lineman injured during yesterday’s restoration effort,” PG&E spokesman JD Guidi told The Sacramento Bee in an emailed response. “They were transported to the hospital. Due to medical and HR privacy laws, we are unable to share any additional information. We are supporting our contractor partners and their families during this time.”
PG&E since late December has had hundreds of personnel repairing power equipment damaged from a severe winter storm, and as of Thursday evening reported about 6,700 of its customers without power in Nevada County and 2,250 in Placer County.
Other utilities have also assisted PG&E in the restoration effort over parts of the past two weeks, including the Sacramento Municipal Utility District, the city of Roseville and several out-of-state utilities.
