Sacramento Metro Fire rescues injured worker trapped by excavator in North Highlands
Firefighters rescued a worker who was seriously injured after he was trapped between an excavator and a building Wednesday at an apartment complex in North Highlands.
About 10:10 a.m., firefighters were called to the complex in the 4400 block of Elkhorn Boulevard, just east of Walerga Road, according to Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District.
Sac Metro Fire spokesman Capt. Parker Wilbourn said he did not know what kind of work was being done or how the worker became trapped between the Caterpillar mini-excavator and the building.
Firefighters freed the trapped man, who was taken to a hospital listed in critical condition. Wilbourn said fire officials notified California Division of Occupational Safety and Health about the incident. Fire officials did not release the man’s name.
