2022 Aftershock to bring Foo Fighters, Kiss, Rob Zombie and more to Sacramento festival

From “Detroit Rock City” to “The Black Parade,” a mix of iconic heavy metal and hard rock bands spanning more than four decades has been tapped as headliners for Aftershock 2022.

The festival, which is expected to draw a combined audience of more than 150,000, is scheduled to rock Discovery Park from Oct. 6 through Oct. 9.

Aftershock 2022 will kick off Oct. 6 with theatrical and ghoulish sounds from headliners Slipknot and Rob Zombie. Oct. 7 features a pyrotechnic blast from the 1970s and beyond with veteran rockers KISS and Judas Priest.

Oct. 8 is headlined by alternative-rock favorites My Chemical Romance and Vacaville natives Papa Roach, who rose to multi-platinum sales in the early 2000s with its high energy rap-rock sound.

Aftershock wraps up Oct. 9 with headlining sets from rock radio favorites Shinedown and Foo Fighters, the ever-popular band that performed at Golden 1 Center in December.

Other bands scheduled for Aftershock 2022 include Lamb of God, Evanescence, Stone Temple Pilots and Bring Me The Horizon.

Aftershock continues to grow since it was launched in 2012 as a single-day event in Discovery Park, which was headlined by Sacramento’s own Deftones and Stone Temple Pilots. Aftershock has since expanded to a multi-day event that ranks among the largest hard rock festivals in the country. In 2021, the concert trade publication Pollstar ranked Aftershock as the world’s third-highest grossing music festival.

Aftershock 2021 drew a combined sold-out audience of 145,000 that included a full weekend of music plus a Thursday evening show that kicked off the event. The festival featured headlining sets by Metallica on two separate nights along with such mosh-pit favorites as Rancid, Anthrax and Mastodon throughout the weekend.

Aftershock is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, a Los Angeles company that organizes and promotes rock festivals around the country including Louder Than Life in Louisville and Welcome to Rockville in Daytona, Fla.

Long-term plans call for Discovery Park to host festivals on three consecutive weekends in October, including a major country music festival, followed by Aftershock and an Americana music festival.

Tourism officials are looking forward to Aftershock 2022 providing a much needed boost to the local economy. According to Visit Sacramento, the economic impact from Aftershock 2022 is projected to be more than $30 million.

Civic leaders such as Sacramento County Supervisor Phil Serna applaud the festival for boosting the area’s entertainment offerings and attracting outsiders to Sacramento. Aftershock ticketholders come from all 50 states and more than a dozen foreign countries.

“Sacramento is nurturing a reputation as a great live music town,” said Serna. “Austin, Texas did it their way (with South By Southwest) and we’re doing it our own way in some regard. It speaks volumes about my constituents’ thirst for live music. (Aftershock) is also a kind of relief valve during a pandemic that’s two years long.”
