Capital region residents can enjoy a day filled with art, history and culture at local museums for free the first weekend in March in Sacramento and the surrounding area.

More than a dozen museums are participating in Free Museum Weekend on March 5 and 6. Last year, Sacramento-area museums made the annual event virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The weekend will be a hybrid experience where guests can choose to visit a local museum in person or online via virtual activities.

Not all participating museums will offer a digital experience and some institutions are only hosting one free admission day. Tickets to the event are limited and online registration is required.

How to register

You can register by going on the event webpage and selecting which museum you want to see, ticket quantity and date if the option is available.
