Three die in multi-vehicle crash near Stockton. One car was going 100 mph, the CHP said

Roadway fatality

Three people were killed in a collision Friday on Highway 12 outside Stockton, the California Highway Patrol said.

At 2:19 p.m., a Hyundai Elantra going east on the highway at more than 100 mph veered off the road into the shoulder, losing control. The car then swerved back into the road and collided with a Honda Pilot that had been in front of the Hyundai. The SUV was carrying three people, CHP said.

The crash forced both cars into the westbound lane where they collided with a third car, a Toyota Camry. The Hyundai and the Honda overturned and came to rest in a water-filled ditch.

The driver of the Hyundai, identified as a 28-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, along with two male passengers in the Honda, ages 25 and 30.

The driver of the Honda as well as the driver and passenger in the Toyota were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

It is not yet know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
