Where cooling centers will be open in the Sacramento area during heat wave
Local officials around the Sacramento area have opened cooling centers as extreme heat envelopes the Valley.
High temperatures are forecast to soar as high as 105 degrees near the capital.
Here’s a list of the centers that will be open, with days and times noted:
The city is forecast to reach 105 degrees Friday and 100 degrees Saturday, with overnight lows around 70 degrees. Highs should drop to the upper 80s by Sunday and hover around the low 90s early next week.
At all sites, masks are required under a California health order requiring face coverings in emergency shelters due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pets are allowed in most places, but they must be on a leash or in an animal carrier. Snacks and water will be provided.
The weather service has issued an excessive heat watch for the entire Sacramento Valley, effective 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. People should avoid prolonged outdoor activity and should remain hydrated amid extreme heat.
