Man hit by pickup truck and dies on Jackson Road in south Sacramento County, CHP says

Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian died after being struck by a pickup truck Monday morning on Jackson Road in Sacramento County’s Vineyard area, California Highway Patrol officials said.

A man was struck on eastbound Highway 16, also known as Jackson Road, near Sunrise Boulevard about 5:20 a.m., according to CHP East Sacramento spokesman Officer Trenton Senter.

The pedestrian walked into the eastbound lane of Jackson Road “directly in front of the pickup truck and was struck as a result,” Senter said.

The man struck was identified by the Coroner’s Office as Oscar Armando Monreal, 31, of Stockton.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene, cooperating with investigators.

Speed, drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the fatal crash, Senter said.

The incident remains under investigation.
