Pedestrian, 72, killed by vehicle while walking on south Sacramento roadway, CHP says

Pedestrian fatality

A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Saturday evening in south Sacramento, authorities said.

A 72-year-old Sacramento man was walking north in the left lane of northbound Franklin Boulevard near Green Tree Drive around 5:15 p.m. when he was struck by a 2001 Toyota, the California Highway Patrol’s South Sacramento office said in a news release.

The driver of the Toyota, a 71-year-old Elk Grove man, stopped at the scene and called 911, according to the CHP. Fire personnel responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead just before 5:30 p.m.

The Toyota driver is cooperating with investigators, and alcohol and drugs have been ruled out as factors, according to the CHP news release.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
