Point Pleasant residents have been ordered to leave their homes and move livestock to higher ground before roads are cut off by oncoming floodwaters expected late Sunday.

Sacramento County emergency officials say the low-lying community southwest of Elk Grove, as well as residents in nearby Franklin Pond and Glanville Tract could see flooding late Sunday. An evacuation center is open at Wackford Community Center, 9401 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove.

Authorities made the evacuation mandatory for Point Pleasant residents saying they “must leave now before the sun goes down affecting the ability to see flooded areas and before roadways are cut off.”

“It is expected that the flooding from the Cosumnes River and the Mokelumne River is moving southwest toward I-5,” county spokeswoman Janna Haynes said in a statement Sunday afternoon. “The Point Pleasant area is expected to be flooded in the middle of the night.”

A flash flood watch has also been issued across Interstate 5, west to the Sacramento River, south to Walnut Grove and north to Elliot Ranch Road as officials watch the flooding caused by the swollen Cosumnnes and Mokulumne rivers.
