The Dolly Llama will serve up waffle-and-ice cream treats at this new Sacramento-area location
Enlightenment through specialty waffles and gourmet ice cream? Perhaps. Elk Grove will soon find out.
The Dolly Llama, the Los Angeles-based chain of waffle-and-ice cream dessert shops, has plans for a space in the Raley’s Center of Elk Grove, 4900 Elk Grove Blvd. at Elk Grove and Franklin boulevards. The shopping center, which last year welcomed Southern California burger favorite Fatburger, is part of Dolly’s Sacramento-area expansion and a broader nationwide push for the franchise. The growing chain’s three Los Angeles locations in downtown, Koreatown and Sherman Oaks are joined by locations in Las Vegas, Florida and Dallas. A Sacramento site is also planned for the Delta Shores shopping center in Meadowview. Seven other new locations are in the works across the country.
The concept is the creation of real estate executive Eric Shomof and European restaurateur Samuel Baroux. The name comes from a favorite pet llama living on Baroux’s llama farm in the south of France, so their story goes.
The Elk Grove site is vacant for now, but The Dolly Llama’s website and social media posts give a tantalizing glimpse of what dessert seekers will find: bubble waffles topped with scoops of salted caramel, horchata, Cookie Monster or vanilla ice cream and sprinkled with all sort of confections: Speculoos cookies, animal crackers and Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.
Creamy shakes include the horchata-and-cinnamon Cinnalover, the vanilla-and-Oreo cookie concoction Snow Storm, coffee-and-cream Coffee Snob and the namesake Dolly Llama (Ultimate Cookie Monster ice cream, whole milk, Oreo crumbs, Kinder bars, chocolate sauce and whipped cream).
The menu also contains vegan offerings including the City of Angels-inspired Melrose Mint Chip and Sunset & Strawberry.
