Two dead, including pedestrian, after two-vehicle crash in Citrus Heights
A pedestrian and driver were killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Citrus Heights, police said.
Officers responded around 7:45 p.m. to the crash near Auburn Boulevard and Cobalt Way, the Citrus Heights Police Department said in a news release, where they located a pedestrian on the ground in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both drivers involved in the crash were transported to hospitals. One was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other was being treated for injuries described as “minor to moderate,” police said.
Speed appeared to be a factor in the crash, but it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs also played a role, according to the news release. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
One of the victims has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as Kimberli Michele Washington, 41, of Sacramento. It was not immediately clear whether Washington was the pedestrian or one of the drivers.
The other victim’s identity will be released by the coroner pending notification of family.
Auburn Boulevard was closed for several hours as police investigated the collision, police said, reopening shortly before 2 a.m.
