One person was found dead following a house fire early Sunday morning in Northern California, as well as a dog, authorities said.

Fire crews and sheriff’s deputies responded around 2 a.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting a fire in the 17000 block of Gold Creek Trail in the town of Volcano, the Amador County Sheriff’s Office and Amador Fire Protection District said in news releases. The Lockwood Fire District also responded.

Emergency personnel arrived to find the home “fully engulfed with the roof collapsed,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Crews located one person and one dog inside the residence, both deceased, sheriff’s officials said.

The coroner’s division of the Sheriff’s Office was working to identify the victim, whose identity will be released pending notification of family.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Office said and fire district said.

Photos from the Amador Fire Protection District showed that firefighting efforts happened amid heavy snow conditions from the weekend’s winter storm.

Volcano is a town of just over 100 people, located off of Highway 88 about 12 miles northeast of Jackson. The fire happened at a home in the Lockwood neighborhood, on the north side of Volcano.
