Near-freezing temps and high winds forecast in Sacramento region ahead of spring heat

weather update

The Sacramento Valley will face gusty winds and frost early this week before temperatures begin to slowly warm up.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday. It stated that northwest winds going 20 to 25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph are expected in Sacramento, Grass Valley and Jackson.

Forecasts show Sacramento could get northwest wind ranging from 11 to 20 mph and gusts up to 29 mph. At night, northwest winds are expected about 6 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 18 mph.

The service is also warning areas of frost 2 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with temperatures as low as 28 to 36 degrees.

“Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result,” the service stated in its Monday announcement. “Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered.”

It is warning people to drive safely, secure objects that are outside and protect plants from the frost.
