You can show some love to your planet this Earth Day by cleaning up parks and waterways around Sacramento.

The city is hosting the Great Sacramento Clean Up, a citywide event where volunteers help pick up litter, according to a news release. It will run from 9 a.m. to noon on April 22.

Volunteers can also help with landscaping and mulching some city parks.

“These cleanups help us keep debris out of our waterways and reduce the risks of flooding in our neighborhoods and streets,” Jennifer Venema, the city’s climate action lead, stated in the release.

Locations

Volunteers can choose to clean up at the following sites, according to the city:

  • Del Paso Regional Park, 3565 Auburn Blvd.
  • San Juan Reservoir Park, 3320 West Witter Way
  • Miller Park, 2701 Marina View Dr.
  • Matsui Park, 450 Jibboom St.
  • Sacramento River Levee at the Prominade, 1400 Front St.
  • William Chorley Park, 7063 20th St.
  • Granite Regional Park, 8200 Ramona Ave.
  • North Laguna Trail at Jacinto Creek Park, 8600 W Stockton Blvd.

For landscaping, volunteers are needed at Robla Community Park (625 Bell Ave.) and William Land Park (3853 18th St.)

Be sure to wear sunscreen and bring water and snacks, the city advised. Tools are provided.

If you need a lift, Sacramento Regional Transit will be offering free rides.
