Sacramento fans who make the trip to San Francisco to watch their beloved Kings play in Game 3 of their NBA playoff series versus the Golden State Warriors will have to leave their cowbells at home.

The Chase Center, the Warriors’ home arena, has listed the noisy cowbells among the prohibited items not allowed inside, along with air horns, whistles, drums, plastic horns and other noise-making devices.

Golden 1 Center, the downtown Sacramento home of the Kings, have a similar prohibited items list for noise-making devices banned from the arena. But the list specifically excludes “cow bells for Kings games only.”

Kings fans’ use of the clanging instrument dates back to 2002, when then-Los Angeles Lakers head coach Phil Jackson called Sacramento a “cow town” and said Kings fans were “semi-civilized” and “maybe redneck in some form or fashion.”

A Chase Center and Warriors spokesperson confirmed the Bay Area team will not ask the NBA for an exception to the league’s noisemaker ban for traveling Kings fans, KCRA reported.

The Kings game at the Chase Center begins at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Sacramento team is up 2-0 in the best-of-seven series. Free tickets for the Game 3 watch party at Golden 1 Center are sold out. Tickets for the Kings Game 4 watch party will be available online starting Friday.
