Professional sports teams and athletes are referenced in music frequently, usually in terms of their skills or just simply showing their adoration for the player or team they represent.
Artists have also jumped on the Sacramento Kings’ success and have made soundtracks to the playoffs.
Sacramento rapper DB Boutabag said that he was contacted by the Sacramento Kings organization and is working on an official anthem during an interview on a podcast called Free Smoke.
Whether official or unofficial, and sometimes by popular demand, certain songs become synonymous with teams or players.
Many local artists in Sacramento have produced soundtracks in honor of their Kings and their recent success.

Wiz Khalifa made “Black and Yellow,” an ode to his hometown Pittsburgh. The song ended up being the anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers en route to their Super Bowl win against the Arizona Cardinals in 2009.
Lil Wayne would do a cover remix to the song, titling it “Green and Yellow” for his favorite football team Green Bay Packers, who won the Super Bowl in 2011.
Khalifa later made “We Dem Boyz,” which became the Dallas Cowboys anthem.
Luniz made the “Oakland Raiders,” which jokingly had foreseen the eventual move to Las Vegas. The song wasn’t about football, but it turned out to be the Raiders hype song that year.
Bay Area rap legend E-40 has made plenty of team anthems whether it’s San Francisco 49er anthem, “Niner Gang” or his 2015 “Choices” Warriors remix after winning their first championship in 40 years.
Stunnaman’s Big Steppin caught the 49ers’ attention and he made a special team remix that became their anthem.
The Kings have come a long way since an unofficial anthem in 2019, called “We’re Not That Bad” by Hobo Johnson. Needless to say, with the recent success of the team, it’s about time that the team get their deserving anthem. Do you know more? Let us know, msmith@sacbee.com.
