Tips are additional money customers leave employees at an establishment for their service and it’s considered part of their pay. Generally, it’s up to you on how much gratuity you leave and what places you would do that at.
Tipping culture has been hotly debated with some saying it’s gotten out of hand, especially as more businesses adopt digital point-of-sale systems that allow for gratuity by credit card.
Residents recently took to social media to ask what’s “appropriate” to leave as a tip at food trucks and bars, and what’s considered a “low” tip for take-out orders.
There’s no right answer, nor does everyone tip the same. Compared to other countries, such as those in Europe, tipping etiquette in the United States strays with a larger percentage.
