How many Michelin-rated restaurants are in Sacramento? Here’s the latest 2023 guide

Michelin stars in Sacramento

No new Sacramento-area restaurants earned Michelin stars in the 2023 guide, but the area had a strong showing in previous years.


Several Sacramento-area restaurants are holding on to their Michelin-rated status, following the 2023 Michelin Guide release.

The annual Michelin Guide recognizes premier restaurants “offering outstanding cooking.” Three Michelin stars deem a restaurant has “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.” Two stars mean the food is excellent and “worth a detour.” And one star regards a restaurant to have “high quality cooking, worth a stop.”

The following information was originally published on Dec. 6, 2022. No changes were made to Sacramento’s list of rated restaurants in 2023.

Two restaurants in Sacramento have a one-star rating. Localis, a California cuisine restaurant, joined The Kitchen, known for its farm-to-fork dining, on the Michelin Guide last year. The Kitchen received its Michelin recognition in 2019.

Where are the Michelin-starred restaurants in Sacramento?

Localis is at 2031 S St. Owner and Christopher Barnum-Dann focuses on clean, fresh dining sourced from California.

The Kitchen is at 2225 Hurley Way. Chefs Randall Selland and Nancy Zimmer started the restaurant with their children, highlighting a farm-to-fork experience in Sacramento.

Bib Gourmands in Sacramento

Aside from the stars, Michelin Guide also handed out Bib Gourmands, an acknowledgment to eateries with “good food at a moderate price.”

A handful of Sacramento-area restaurants kept their previous Bib Gourmands.

This includes Canon at 1719 34th St. Cradled in East Sacramento, Canon focuses on seasonal and shareable plates.

Frank Fat’s, serving modern Chinese cuisine at 806 L St., has a Bib Gourmand. Yue Huang, a Chinese dim sum restaurant at 3860 Truxel Rd., also has one.

Outside of the city, Nixtaco at 1805 Cirby Way, in Roseville retained its Bib Gourmand.
