The Sacramento Police Department will conduct a DUI Checkpoint Friday night, according to a news release.

Officers will be in the area of Del Paso Road and Five Star Way from 7 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday. These checkpoints allow officers to identify drivers that are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The department stated that the locations of the checkpoint are based on previous DUI-related crashes and arrests.

“The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired,” the department stated.

Impaired driving also includes the use of prescription and over-the-counter medications that may impact driving, as well as marijuana.

What are the penalties?

First-time violators face an average of $13,500 in fines and a suspended license.

If you plan on drinking or using medications, plan on staying home, the department advised.
