New bar opens with budget-friendly cocktails and tropical vibes in Davis. What’s on the menu?

What's opening in the Sacramento area

At the newest bar in Davis, you can unwind with island-inspired cocktails alongside skeletons dressed in long-black wigs and pirate hats.

Shipwrecked Tiki Bar at 217 G St. in downtown Davis opened its doors for the first time on Friday evening with rows of beers, wines, rum, gin, vodka and whiskey. Inside, customers sip drinks decorated with flowers while surrounded by octopus tentacles, hammerhead sharks and pirates wrapped in rope.

The grand opening comes nearly two months after the business announced the concept on the founder’s Instagram page in early June.

“We’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what’s ‘best’ in the world of cocktails, while ensuring these unparalleled experiences are accessible to all, irrespective of their budget,” Shipwrecked Tiki Bar wrote on its website.

The bar is owned by partners Melissa and Nate Yungvanitsait, owners of Northern California restaurant chain University of Beer.

Representatives were not immediately available for comment.

The cocktail list is extensive, with prices ranging from the $7.50 Cubra Libre made with dark rum, fresh lime and soda to a $30 Mojito Pitcher made with white rum, lime juice, carbonated water and your choice of flavoring. The three types of mocktails cost between $7 and $8.

The $18 Zombie Jet Pilot made with a blend of rum is limited to one per customer. Those who show their UC Davis student I.D. get a $5 discount.

The bar hosts “Mojito Night” on Thursdays with $15 pitchers of mojitos with flavors like Huckleberry, Rock Candy and Bourbon Spice.

The bar does not sell food, according to its website. Only credits cars are accepted, no cash.
